The Occidental is Wellington's original Monteiths craft bar. Nestled in the heart of Wellington's CBD we are a stone's throw from Parliament, Westpac Trust Stadium and the railway station.

March 2003 saw the refurbishment, re-invention and return to The Occidental, paying homage to 133 years of its publican history.

We have created a bar that we believe has taken the best elements out of the traditional 'Kiwi pub' and brought them into this century. Whether you are an old-time regular, new regular or passing through visitor, we welcome you in our doors.

We back our Kiwi style with Kiwi tunes throughout the day and night, backed up by local Wellington musicians every Friday night.

Monteith’s Celtic Beer is considered an ‘Irish-style ale’ in the heritage of beers of a burnt-red colour traditionally brewed in the Emerald Isle.
